Cold Brew Coffee At Home
I’ll start by saying I have this weird love for coffee and I’m definitely not the type who only drinks coffee to stay awake in the morning. I think i’m beyond that point. I really just enjoy the warmth of a great cup of joe in the morning or a cold refreshing cold brew on really hot days. Lately, almost everyday I’ve been brewing a batch of cold brew coffee overnight (yes every-night, only because my husband enjoys coffee as much as I do) and once I realized how easy this recipe was to brew at home, I’ve been loving the extra money I’ve been saving from picking up a coffee on the way to work. I’ve been taking advice from Jamie Oliver and sticking by his directions;
“Working to roughly a 1:8 coffee-to-water ratio, place your grounds in the bottom of the jar, and cover with cold water. Stir gently until well combined, then cover and leave to steep for 18-24 hours, either in or out of the fridge. When brewed, strain into a large bowl through a sieve to remove the larger grounds.”
I never really knew the difference between a cold brew and an iced coffee until pretty recently. The simple hot coffee poured after a cup of ice completely waters down the flavor, which I was totally okay with in the past. Now the overnight cold brew packed with flavor is something I crave now more often during the summer months. If you switch over off from iced coffee to cold brew I would love to hear your thoughts.
