The Perfect Layering Pieces for WinterJessica Hart
New York weather at the moment has been a bit erratic. Some days it’s snowing and the next it’s sunny and close to 50. Most mornings I reach for some kind of layering piece. Oversized cardigans, turtleneck sweaters, ponchos, sweater dresses and the trendy blanket scarf have been lifesavers for me on those days when the weather hits below 30. Here are my 5 favorite layering pieces I’ll be wearing all winter long.
Sweater Dress: H&M
The sweater dress is probably my favorite piece I’ll be reaching for over and over this winter. It can be unflattering at times due to the shape, but It’s easily the best way to stay chic and cozy at the same time.
Turtleneck Sweater: Banana Republic
A great invest when shopping for winter pieces are turtleneck sweaters. They ensure that your neck is nice and snug all winter long. A good turtleneck sweater will look good with just about anything, under a sleeveless dress, tucked into a skirt (as seen here) or simply on their own.
Oversized Cardigan: H&M (similar)
Oversized cardigans have become an instant favorite. It’s a comfy knit that has a menswear inspired coat look to it and I’m tempted to wear it every other day when the temperature hits below 30.
The poncho or cape style sweaters are perfect for layering. They have a loose fit so that you layer as much as you want and still look on-trend.
The Blanket Scarf: Burberry (similar)
I’m all about the drape-y look this winter. I’ll use any excuse to wear a blanket outside the house and still look pull together at the same time (as seen here). There’s plenty of ways to wear this scarf, and my favorite is to drape it once around my neck and let the ends casually hang at the side.
