We’ve had these IKEA shelves for a while now, but recently I had the opportunity to re- style them in my newly painted living room. The last time I styled these shelves I had them over packed with photos, books and trinkets I wanted to display. I gathered a few tips I used when grouping these items on display. Here’s a peek at the double shelf styling I put together for the meantime.

Accent Color – Neutral accents tend to pull a look together. I love adding in white, cream and metallic elements throughout to give the grouping a warm, clean and neutral feel. Also, spray paint can give an older item new life and of course a shiny new color.

Mix and Match – Use books and magazine in varying heights and sizes with decorative objects to give personality to your space.

Repeat – I believe symmetry is important when styling shelves. Repeat similar items in somewhat of a pattern. Here I used the frames in different heights from left to right and then again from right to left on the bottom.
