When Makeup Goes Bad…Jessica Hart
When makeup goes bad…(cue the mystery music) don don Don! Did you know that makeup has an expiration date?
If you asked me, I don’t believe in leaving the lid off your yogurt for a week in the fridge. Nope, I know you’d agree that it would grow mold! So, I toss them, I treat my makeup the same way, The old eyeshadow palettes with broken lids and even missing lids, all get the boot. Thats the best way to protect yourself from the bacteria and dirt that can cling onto your makeup and in return end up on your face.
Here are some round about dates/times to start getting rid of your makeup;
1. Mascara: The only makeup product with the quickest turn over. Change out your mascara every 3 months to prevent bacteria from getting around or even in your eye.
2. Eyeshadow: Powder eyeshadows have a longer expiration rather then something in the form of liquid. As long as you have lids on your eyeshades, the product can last you 2 yrs or more.
3. Lipstick/Lipgloss: If it smells and becomes extra thick, it’s bad! I give lipgloss about 18 months before I start tossing them.
4. Foundation: I’ve heard a couple of tricks to keep your foundation lasting longer; keeping it in the fridge or in a cool place. But overall, if your foundation starts to change colors and begins to separate… it’s time to toss it. Foundation expiration is about 1 year.
